Artist Lecture in the Gallery
August 10th at 5pm
In support of Reifen’s solo exhibition All Is Dvash on view at Sienna Gallery July 26th – August 17th.

“Be aware of beauty” is a moto I have grown up with. “It brings joy into your life” I was told, and this is my ultimate goal in my work.

Flowers, little gems of beauty, displayed freely by nature, have punctuated my life with slivers of happiness. Their myriad shapes and colors, their undulating, flowing lines, are the source of my inspiration, and have led to my fanciful compositions.

Flowers hold the promise of future fruits, their nectar the promise of future honey. Coming from the land of ‘Milk and Honey’, I have titled my show ‘All is Dvash’ – all is honey, hinting to the wonder of hope and joy contained within each flower.

Each piece is unique. Individually sculpted by hand, and electroformed in my studio, brought to life by highlights of color. Bold yet delicate, each is an invitation for you to connect to those moments of happiness aroused by flowers in your life, and outwardly adorn yourself with them.

INDEFINITE
A lecture by Adam Grinovich and Christine Santanastaso

One of the many demands of being a professional in the field of jewelry is choosing a title to define oneself. Goldsmith, craftsman, designer, artist; these are just a few of the possible designations that an emerging individual could choose. After leaving the security of an educational system a jeweler is faced with the task of trying to understand what exactly he or she identifies with in regards to the broad concept of being a maker.

“Indefinite” seeks to compare and contrast two young jewelers, one focused on contemporary  jewelry and design in Europe and the other working in the American fashion industry. The artists were drawn together by mutual feelings of uncertainty concerning the exact label they use to define their specific forms of expression. Their point of convergence: the concept of jewelry and the challenge of comprehending its tradition in a contemporary context.

“Indefinite” is a tracing of two lines of flight, from education to professional practice, resulting in a unique dialogue about jewelry in contemporary culture.

Adam Grinovich is an American born jeweler living and working in Stockholm Sweden. He received his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and his MFA at Konstfack University in Stockholm Sweden, underneath the guidance of Dutch jeweler Ruudt Peters.  He is a founding member of the experimental jewelry group A5 (www.afive.se) and the design collective Critical + (www.criticalplusdesign.com

Christine Santanastaso received her BFA in 2011 from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and began her career in the fashion industry, where she creates jewelry for private label companies, as well as works on collaborations with top designers for their runway shows. She is a current Designer at Sequin LLC, a New York City based design house that caters to the needs of many boutiques, companies and fashion designers.
