Michelle discovered a love for metal smithing after a journalistic career spanning 10 years and two continents, which took her to Italy to train in classical techniques including Florentine fretwork, Etruscan granulation, and lost wax casting. Her practice is modern, comprising statement pieces that feature strong pops of color, surprising juxtapositions of materials, as well as a liberal exploration of asymmetry and organic forms. At Brooklyn Metal Works, she has happily replaced her pen with a saw—exercising her passion for turning gemstones into wearable sculptures.
