Kristi Sword was born to hard working American laborers in Iowa. Now she is an artist residing in Brooklyn using her hands to build playful and elaborate work that explores repetition, childlike awe, and the limitations and possibilities of mass-produced products. During the process of completing a masters degree in metals and jewelry at SUNY New Paltz, Kristi began magnifying smaller details in her jewelry work. The nuances of metal working and jewelry making gave way to her making her way of drawing. Her new body of work continues to explore craft materials through intuitive and meditative process driven work that embraces mistakes and triumphs alike.
