Antique Cut Faceting Workshop
Class Description
Taught by JUSTIN K Prim
Two day course (9:30 AM-4:30 PM), October 22-23
The Antique Cut Faceting Workshop is a two-day introduction to gemstone faceting built around a historic French Cut design.
Over the course of the workshop, you will take a gemstone from rough to a fully finished stone. You will learn how to preform and dop the rough, cut and polish the crown, transfer the stone, and complete the pavilion
As you make your way through the stone, you will begin to understand how angles, indexes, facet placement, symmetry, and proportions work together to determine the final appearance of a stone. You will also develop an understand about the difference between modern cutting styles and antique cutting styles.
By the end of the workshop, you will have transformed a piece of rough into your own finished French cut gemstone and gained hands on experience with every major stage of the faceting process.
Take your love of gems to the next level by engaging all your senses in the cutting process and actually shaping a natural stone with your own hands. Whether you want to try faceting as a new hobby or you want to add a bit of knowledge about the ancient art of lapidary to your currently gemstone trade knowledge, this workshop is perfect for you.
The Antique Cut Faceting Workshop can be taken by anyone who is interested in trying out the art of faceting. No experience is needed, as we will start the class from the basics.
Class size: 5 students.
