Casey Sobel

Casey Sobel is a mixed media artist and master jeweler, also skilled as an educator, costume designer, leather worker, craftsman, make-up artist and educator, drawing inspiration from texture, materials, processes, and experimental design. Originally from rural New Jersey, Sobel was raised in a family of welders, carpenters, seamstresses, textile designers, and more, instilling a deep appreciation for the handmade object. After graduating from Pratt Institute, Sobel worked with brands such as Catbird and Alex Sepkus, and served as a master jeweler, engraver, technical writer, and educator for Cartier. In addition to being invited back to their Alma Mater, Pratt, to teach jewelry design and fabrication classes and lecture on navigating the ins and outs of the jewelry industry, Sobel has traveled extensively, working in various jewelry workshops. She helped establish new studios, trained jewelers to refine their skills, taught managers how to instruct new techniques, and created and implemented complex technical training documents for highly specialized pieces. She is dedicated to maintaining a sustainable jewelry practice, prioritizing high ethics and morals by using sustainably sourced materials and stones.

Sobel has been named by the New York Times as “1 of 6 New York City Jewelers to Know,” and has been featured in publications including Architectural Digest, Women’s Wear Daily, and Swarovski’s Gem Visions trend book. Sobel’s work is exhibited in museums and galleries nationwide, including the Smithsonian’s National Building Museum, as well as in the permanent collections of the Museum of Arts and Design and the Navy Yard Museum, and in the personal collections of renowned art jewelry collectors.
