Final Finishes
Class Description
Taught by Odette Channel
This class is for anyone who wants to take their work to the next level! With jewelry, whether a piece reads as "finished" comes down to how intentionally the surface was treated. This may be a simple process like throwing it in the tumbler, or a more complex process like polishing to a mirror finish. It may even combine multiple techniques as with a glowy satin finish or a transitioning texture. Learn to achieve the look you're going for with this comprehensive 8-week course on finishing. Gain a better understanding of what to look for between different grits and compounds, as well as how to control your tools for maximum consistency and that perfect "final finish".
Students will work on practice rings, bringing each one up to a different finish: high polish, satin finish, and a textured finish of their choice. Towards the end of the course, students will have the option to bring in their own work for troubleshooting.
This class is for beginner and intermediate level jewelers; students with prior metalsmithing experience. To take this course students are expected to have basic familiarity with jewelry making processes. Our Welcome to Jewelry class offers this introduction.
