Hollow Ring Carving
Class Description
Taught by Cyril Despointes.
Price of metals being on a steep rise, creating a wax model in two pieces that can be hollowed out will help save on weight as well as crafting a nice clean piece. The hollowed out areas will allow polishing inside the two parts of the ring which will be assembled and soldered at the end of the fabrication process. This class will also demonstrate how to prepare a seat for a stone on the top part of the ring. After casting the two wax parts, cleaning the metal and assembling the ring will be demonstrated.
This is an intermediate to advanced class. Students must have prior wax carving experience and basic jewelry fabrication skills including soldering and torchwork.
Preparation for stone setting techniques will be discussed as they apply to student’s designs, but stone setting processes will not be taught. Metal casting for this class is outsourced and will be the responsibility of the student. A resource list of casting facilities will be provided.
Class size 4 – 8 students.
