The Essential Prong
Class Description
Taught by Odette Channell
Learning how to set gemstones into metal jewelry is an essential part of becoming a jeweler. In this introductory stone setting class, students will learn an overview of how to set stones in basic prong settings.
Starting with a twist on a tube setting, students will create a crown set ring and learn to cut a seat for a faceted stone. The next project will bring greater soldering challenges as students learn to build and refine a basket setting for a round faceted stone. Prong setting for cabochons will be covered as time allows.
At the end of this 8 session course, students will walk away with a basic understanding of how to secure stones, and increased proficiency in soldering and bur use, as well as greater confidence to incorporate stones into their designs. Take the next step in your jewelry journey with this fundamental and exciting process!
