The Brooklyn Metal Works Resonance Residency
Our Residency Program and Fundraiser
Brooklyn Metal Works is fundraising to launch the Resonance Residency, our first artist residency for jewelry artists. The Resonance Residency offers artists an opportunity to develop their work and studio practice while utilizing the unique advantages that come from being in New York City, the epicenter of the contemporary jewelry scene. This residency will provide opportunities for jewelers at every level of their career to continue their studio practice or develop a new body of work.
To welcome the initial Resonance Residency cohort of artists, we are fundraising through bundled selections of specialty publications from Helen Drutt Gallery that we have received as a generous donation from the personal library of Helen Drutt English, renowned art historian, educator, and founder of Helen Drutt Gallery in Philadelphia. Drutt’s intention is to support contemporary jewelry artists through the sale of these valuable publications as funding for the Brooklyn Metal Works Residency Program.
About Helen Drutt
Helen W. Drutt English (Helen Drutt) was founder/director of her eponymous gallery in Philadelphia (1973–2002), which was among the first galleries in the United States to make a commitment to the modern and contemporary craft movement. In 1973, she developed the first syllabus for a college-level course in the history of the field. She has received numerous awards and three honorary doctorates. Drutt was a trustee of the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, a Fellow of the American Craft Council, and is an associate of the Goldsmiths’ Company, London, UK. The Helen Williams Drutt Collection of contemporary jewelry (1963–2007) is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
This project is fiscally sponsored by Art Jewelry Forum.
Art Jewelry Forum (AJF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1997 to advocate for the international field of contemporary art jewelry. They do so through education, discourse, appreciation, and support for the field.
